Long-Term Investing Series

Today's Topic: Dividend Strategy & Quality Investing

Dividend Strategy

This strategy focuses on investing in companies that have a consistent history of paying dividends or are likely to pay attractive dividends in the future.

Investors following this approach generally prioritize regular income over short-term price appreciation.

Quality Investing Strategy

Some investors focus primarily on the quality of a company's management and business model.

Their belief is that strong leadership, sound governance, and a well-run business are better positioned for long-term growth.

Because of this, they may be more comfortable investing even when valuations are higher or when short-term performance is weaker.

Featured Finance Question

Why does a company's share price often fall after a QIP?

A Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP) is a method through which a listed company raises capital by issuing new shares exclusively to institutional investors.

These shares are usually offered at a slight discount to the prevailing market price.

Why can prices fall afterward?

- Some investors perceive the discounted issue as a negative signal.
- Others consider the QIP price to be the stock's fair value.
- The increase in the total number of shares can reduce Earnings Per Share (EPS), leading to temporary price adjustments.
- Fear-driven selling can also contribute to short-term declines.

Is a QIP good or bad?

A QIP is neither inherently good nor bad. Its impact depends on why the company is raising money and how effectively that capital is used.
